Pedagogical Beliefs

Hello, I am Thomas Arndt. I currently am a Secondary Social Studies Education Major at Indiana University Bloomington. My pedagogical belief is that of connecting the real world to learning and having students act not only as students but, instructors acting as a self-motivator for learning. I believe in creating a self-supporting learning community where students are advocates not only for themselves but others too. In my classroom, I believe that students should feel that they are being cared about and that their socio-emotional development is the most important thing to me. I believe that as our world is becoming more technologically advanced that students should also have a strong technical skillset that is combined with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills through skills gained from computational thinking. On the idea of equity, I believe that homework is something that should be done in the classroom as the idea of student resources away from the classroom means I should always structure time for students to complete and work on assignments during class. In my classroom, students will engage in project-based learning that connects to real-world skills and products.
