Pedagogical Beliefs Synopsis

Hello, I am Thomas Arndt. I currently am a Secondary Social Studies Education Major with a license addition in Computer Education at Indiana University Bloomington. My pedagogical belief is that of connecting the learning to the real-world and having students act not only as students but, instructors acting as a self-motivator for learning. I believe in creating a self-supporting learning community where students are advocates not only for themselves but others too. In my classroom, I believe that students should feel that they are being cared about, that their health and socio-emotional development is the most important thing to me. With a more community-centered and application based set of learning I hope to allow students to showcase mastery of material in creative and independent ways. I believe that as our world is becoming more technologically advanced that students should also have a strong technical skillset that is combined with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills through skills gained from computational thinking. In my classroom, students will engage in project-based learning that connects to real-world skills and products.

A brief statement on my education philosophy statement and classroom management statement.

Over the course of Foundations of Social Studies during my Junior Year we would engage in a writing a reflection on the readings from the course, at the end of this course we took those reflections and culminated our Social Studies Rationale.
